Dickson Chew (周迪顺)

Counsel

Dickson is Counsel at Contigo Law LLC and brings a decade of experience in private practice across civil and commercial litigation, corporate law, insolvency and restructuring, construction disputes, and employment matters. He is effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin.

He read law at the National University of Singapore and graduated with Second Class (Upper) Honours, and was awarded the Gower Prize for achieving the best results in Company Law.

Dickson has appeared at all levels of Court as well as in international arbitration under the auspices of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). He is comfortable handling multi-jurisdictional matters and has experience with cross-border disputes involving parties from China, Vietnam, the United States, Germany, and Thailand.

Dickson is thorough, precise and solutions oriented. He takes pride in understanding the commercial realities that underpin his clients' disputes and in delivering practical, strategic advice tailored to each client's needs.

Practice Areas

Commercial Litigation

Dickson successfully acted for an investment house in the precious metals and gemstones trade to enforce a debt of US$4 million (see [2023] SGHC 307), and acted for SMRT Alpha Pte Ltd in the High Court and Court of Appeal for breach of tenancy with loss and damage assessed at S$2.7 million (see [2017] SGHC 243; [2018] SGCA 36).

Insolvency & Restructuring

Dickson has advised and acted for the founder and former director of Babel Holdings in the US$1.5 billion restructuring of Babel Finance (see [2023] SGHC 98; [2023] SGHC 329), and successfully acted as lead counsel for a liquidator to secure declaratory relief and vesting orders against a company’s ex-director in proceedings (unreported).

Construction & Building Disputes

Dickson regularly acts in construction arbitrations and adjudications. He was lead counsel for an M&E contractor in an SIAC arbitration valued at over $2.5 million involving the wrongful withholding of retention monies, which was resolved successfully in the client's favour.

Corporate & Shareholder Disputes

Dickson has experience with complex shareholder disputes involving concurrent proceedings across multiple jurisdictions. He acted for a group of related Singapore companies in a shareholder dispute with concurrent proceedings in the High Court, the SIAC, and a German court on issues concerning directors' duties, minority oppression, and employment claims.

Employment Disputes

Dickson advises employers and employees on the full range of employment matters, including wrongful dismissal, incentive entitlements, and the drafting and enforcement of restrictive covenants.

Property Disputes

Dickson has acted in property disputes involving strata developments, encroachment claims, and tenancy enforcement. He successfully acted for a hotel operator to obtain injunctive relief and specific performance to enforce the renewal of a commercial tenancy valued at $6 million over a 4-year term.
